The historical originals—which I continue to study—are both the best specimens to copy and the highest source of inspiration. In the spirit of traditional craftsmanship, I build one instrument at a time according to the most rigorous standards.

All wooden parts are hand-planed and only hide glue is used for my instruments. The keyboard, the point where musician and instrument connect, receives the most attention.

My goal is to restore the original sound; the use of historical building techniques lends a particular character, a 'signature' style, to the instruments; but this is only a means to an end.
